#160 - Hostages to Fortune

There is always a lesson to learn when you watch “The Rifleman.” There is no better teacher for Mark than his father, Lucas McCain. Lucas teaches Mark from “The Bible” and from experience. Sometimes the lessons are hard ones and at times rather easy ones. They are still lessons learned! Let’s discuss the lessons learned in each episode. “Every lesson you learn makes you a better partner.” “Just remember the lessons!”

I tried finding some things out about him but his link doesn't work.  There was a messageboard there and I was hoping to connect with someone to see what he is up today & if he remembers anything about when he was on TR.  But the post are far too old.  It doesn't look like anyone keeps it up.

He left the show because there was some trouble with his mother. According to Barbara Billingsley she eluded to the fact that Rusty's mother wanted things her way and when she squawked about it they simply didn't need "Larry" anymore. However his brother, Rory Stevens, who played Chuckie appeared in a few episodes of Beaver but Rusty's career was done. Except for that part in Rifleman. The story you hear most often was that Rusty moved away and couldn't play Larry.

When some magazine people found out where Robert Stevens (Larry) lived they went to the door and asked if Larry from the show Leave it To Beaver lived there. His wife didn't know what they were talking about and said no. When she saw her husband she told them what had transpired and Robert told her that they were right he did play Larry Mondello on LITB as a kid. She never knew that and he had never told her. Guess he was trying to put it behind him.

It would be neat to hear his thought of when he was on "The Rifleman."

It is funny all the different types of sightings there has been.

The Barbara Billingsley comments are believable.  In these postings someone also mentions Karen Sue Trent/Lorrie from Hostages to a Fortune.
