#90 - Miss Bertie

There is always a lesson to learn when you watch “The Rifleman.” There is no better teacher for Mark than his father, Lucas McCain. Lucas teaches Mark from “The Bible” and from experience. Sometimes the lessons are hard ones and at times rather easy ones. They are still lessons learned! Let’s discuss the lessons learned in each episode. “Every lesson you learn makes you a better partner.” “Just remember the lessons!”

When Lucas tells duke that the last he heard Jennings was in Oklahoma, does duke say he has done some "writing" or "riding" since then?

Duke said: "“I’ve done some writing since then.

Huh? I don't get it. Maybe Duke was writing his memoir. :-|

He says riding not writing according to the closed captioning. I think he does say riding, it makes more sense in answer to Lucas' comment that last he heard he was in Oklahoma Territory.

Thank you, oldtimer!

Deneen -I was going to say maybe duke was supplementing his income as a newspaper stringer. From what I understand, gunfighting and gambling have lousy pension plans.

With Duke being an outlaw - Riding makes more sense to me than writing.

According to "The Rifleman Episode Guide" - Duke is saying " I’ve done some writing since then". There's a blooper somewhere. :icon_question: :worried2:

I agree "riding" makes the most sense-I do wonder what he was doing while he was riding around.

On the other hand, maybe in addition to her sideline as a bounty hunter, miss bertie freelanced as a pinkerton agent and wrote dime novels under a "suitably" masculine pseudonym.

Agnes moorehead coached Debbie Reynolds on performing impersonations : "it's where they place their voice, where they put it".

I've got it: ms. Bertie was an actress supplementing her income as a bounty hunter.

After leaving the saloon

Miss Bertie : I really don't see what the problem is. As you said, Marshall, The saloon is open to the public-providing people behave themselves.

Mark: pa, I'll be back in a few hours. I'll be the gentleman you raisee me to be.

I noticed something during my last viewing of this episode. When Millie is not wearing a dress, she dresses a lot like Lucas : hip-hugging blue jeans and a white shirt.
