The Old West.. where a lone cowboy leads an uprising against a terror from beyond our world. 1873. Arizona Territory. A stranger with no memory of his past stumbles into the hard desert town of Absolution. The only hint to his history is a mysterious shackle that encircles one wrist. What he discovers is that the people of Absolution don't welcome strangers, and nobody makes a move on its streets unless ordered to do so by the iron-fisted Colonel Dolarhyde (Ford). It's a town that lives in fear. But Absolution is about to experience fear it can scarcely comprehend as the desolate city is attacked by marauders from the sky. Screaming down with breathtaking velocity and blinding lights to abduct the helpless one by one, these monsters challenge everything the residents have ever known. Now, the stranger they rejected is their only hope for salvation. As this gunslinger slowly starts to remember who he is and where he's been... Written by Universal Pictures

To me, it was cowboys and aliens.  The storyline didn't pull me into the movie.  We find out why the aliens are there, but never why they kidnapped the humans.  There are moments where the story starts to evolve, but I felt the director/writers stopped short of taking that step to give the character depth, to make the story believable.  Had to quickly get back to the "shoot 'em up" scenes.  Guess I was expecting more of a plot since this was a Steven Spielberg and Ron Howard produced film.

Overall, I found the movie lacking...  Maybe they shouldn't have started promoting it last year, too much of a buildup.

This is just my opinion.  I'd love to hear what others have to say.

I agree with you Bluewindfarm.  I wasn't quite sure what to expect from this movie, but I wasn't setting my expectations too high.  And just not sure what you can do with cowboys and aliens together to make it really good.

I agree here, I thought if anybody could pull this off they could.

I did pick out a couple things from a movie that are very piddlin' but found them interesting.

Daniel Craig sure looked good in those jeans!  I really think they were custom made for him!  I never was much of a Daniel Craig fan, I did like him in this.  He reminding me of a today Charles Bronson. smiley_girllaughing

Daniel Craig & Harrison Ford along with Buck Taylor & his sons made this movie worth while.

I did enjoy the actor Nat Colorado played by Adam Beach.  I hope to see more of him in the future.  Nat's devotion, love & respect for Woodrow Dolarhyde, Harrison Ford's character, was heart felt.  It's too bad Woodrow didn't see this earlier!!!!!

There was several quotes that I liked and had hoped to find in IMDB, but they aren't there yet.  I'd have to watch this again to pick them out.  I'm not sure if I will do that!!!!!

The one that stuck with me most was.....

"God doesn't care who your were, he cares who you are now."

I'm not sure I have the exact wording.

One thing I found interesting was that Buck Taylor & his two sons were in this movie also.  You can see them in the very beginning.

They were really hard to recognize.

Buck Taylor  ...  Wes Claiborne
Matthew Taylor  ...  Luke Claiborne
Cooper Taylor  ...  Mose Claiborne

They are left to right Cooper - Buck - Matt Taylor.

For the first time in his career, the ex-"Gunsmoke" star was working a scene with his two stuntman sons Matthew (named after a certain Marshal Dillon) and Cooper (named after Gary Cooper). Like their dad, they had grown out beards for the shoot.

I have met Buck Taylor several times!  He is super!

I remember when I was in Kanab at The Western Legend Round Up, I had talked to several of the cowboys about 3:10 to Yuma.  Some of them did care for this movie.  I can't help but wonder what they think of Cowboys & Aliens?
I've seen the ads for it on Youtube (I think) and I roll my eyes...Yeah, I'm not a big sci-fi person, so I'll let you guys have all your fun!!!
All & all Michelle, it's worth seeing just to see Daniel Craig in those jeans!!!  smiley_girllaughing teasin'

Renewed Fan, I'd love to hear if you did get to see this & your opnion!!!!!

How many popcorn bags would I give this?  hmmmmm..... 7 1/2 maybe 8. :happy1:  awesome_pepsi

Yuma - motley posse escorts criminal.  Posse contains criminal, religious individual, doctor, boy, etc.

Aliens motley posse chases aliens.  Posse contains criminal, religious individual, doctor, boy, etc.
