Bridget "Biddy" Mason

From the mirage factory by Gary krist: biddy mason was an African -American woman who was born a slave in 1885 and given as a wedding present to a couple. (Repulsive) the couple moved to los Angeles. California did not recognize slavery. She petitioned the mayor of San Bernardino for freedom, which was granted. Ms. Mason became a nurse, philanthropist, and real esTate entrepreneur in los Angeles. She died in 1891.
