Jerry Lewis, comedian, telethon host, dies at 91

Jerry Lewis, the rubber-faced comedian and director whose fundraising telethons became as famous as his hit movies, has died.

Publicist Candi Cazau says Lewis passed away Sunday morning of natural causes at age 91 in Las Vegas with his family by his side.

Lewis first became a star in a duo with Dean Martin, entertaining audiences in nightclubs, on television and in the movies. After their split in 1956, he starred in and directed a slew of hit films such as "The Nutty Professor."

Later generations knew him primarily as the tireless conductor of the Labor Day weekend telethons to raise funds for victims of muscular dystrophy. Lewis retired from making movies in 1995, but returned as star of the 2016 drama "Max Rose."

Sadly, he will be missed! Thanks for the Memories!

Rest in peace and thank you! I loved him with Dean Martin and as a solo act.

I recently wondered how Jerry Lewis was doing. Maybe because Labor Day is coming soon. I spent almost 25 years watching Jerry for the entire 20+ hours on the MDA Labor Day Telethons. I would feel guilty if I dozed off for a minute.

I remember the night Dean Martin surprised Jerry by appearing of the telethon. They had not spoken for years.

I also remember his son Gary on the telethon with his band - Gary Lewis and the Play Boys.

At the end of each telethon Jerry would sing "You'll Never Walk Alone".
Very emotional.

R~I~P Jerry - Great Memories!

I saw Gary Lewis & the playboys a couple of years back. Love the group and their songs.

He talked about how he wrote (and etc) Everybody Loves A Clown for his father for his birthday. Somebody thought it would be a hit, so he got his father's permission to share it with us.

I was watching clips of Jerry Lewis yesterday. There is one thing for which the man was not given enough credit-unlike Lucas he was a phenomenal dancer!

Lucas tells Lil Halstead he would not get a nickel for the way he danced.

"End of the Hunt" - Lou said Lucas must have danced with every girl at the barn dance. Yet - we never see Lucas dance during the entire series.
