Husting

I learned this word from The Winters, a retelling of the Daphne duMaurier classic Rebecca. A husting is a meeting between a political candidate and potential voters.

From the official North Fork Historian

Legend has is Micah Torrance lost the 1884 election because he got complacent and did not hit the hustings. Some scholars theorize that if women had had the vote then Micah would have won. However, most think it is because of a rumor never - proven that Marshall Torrance lost the handcuff keys and a condemned prison escaped.
