Fiddle-footed

Post by Zanza »

I've heard this on a number of westerns and I finally remembered to look it up. Fiddle-footed means a person prone to wandering.

I've been hearing it for years on westerns. Only westerns.

Hmmm... Have you read any western novels/short stories before?

Not many. I love western movies and TV shows but the genre of western literature is one that I don't care for in general. I read Lonesome Dove and disliked it a great deal. I tried authors like Zane Grey and did not care for him at all. I do have the book The Oxbow Incident, and that was a great movie as well as being a great book. The subject matter is painful, since it examines a lynching in detail, but it was a wonderful character study. I also like the movie The Searchers, and that book is very very good. But as I said, as a general rule, I don't care for western fiction. I love stories that delve into characters, and most of the western fiction I've tried to peruse seemed to deal more with the atmosphere of the west and to have rather wooden characters.
