Hello the house!

Hattie uses this greeting when she drops of Lucas's medicine at the end of the woman. Lucas uses this expression when ilvisits woody and grandpa fogarty in the long goodbye. "Hello the house!" Means the visit is friendly and not sinister. However, cynical me thinks thst if one is up to nefarious purposes, one would say that anyway.

Good info Dana. thats one expression we don't use anymore with the invention of the doorbell. I love your research.

Thank you, wildwest! You made me curious about doorbells. Scottish inventor William Murdoch invented a type of doorbell in 1871 . American inventor Joseph henry invented the electric doorbell in 1831. By the early 1930's , electric doorbells were common place.
