I've been trying to avoid posting duplicate items, but the ranch has so much great information that it takes a long time to check what's already here. I hope no one objects to seeing something they may have seen here before. If I know the source, I'll post it. If you don't see source information and you know when and where the item was first published, please add that information. Thank you!

This is not a nice thing to say, but I’m glad Dennis Hopper did not land the role of Mark McCain. I really don’t think the show would have been nearly as enduring to us, if he had landed that particular role. The core of the show was the loving relationship between father and son; I personally think Dennis Hopper was too old for the role of Mark; he was approximately 22 years old. However, Johnny Crawford was only 12 years old and therefore fit the bill so much better. Not only that, there was a truly remarkable on-screen chemistry between Chuck Connors and Johnny Crawford, which definitely kept the viewers coming back for more.

Judy, I think the article meant that the character Dennis played was only seen in the pilot episode and did not become a recurring character in the series.
