Seriously, Which Way DID They Go???

The Jackman brothers are like the Darling family in "The Andy Griffith Show", with Lucas having the Andy Taylor characteristics... and the tall, dark-haired Jackman brother looks/acts like Jethro Bodine of "The Beverly Hillbillies". The plot and all around silliness comes off as a combination of the two. There may be more similarities, but these are the ones that initially hit home with me. Makes me wonder if this was done on purpose because those two shows were so popular at the time? (TAGS having started 10/60 and TBH having started in 9/62.) - Anyone?? :dontknow:

Actually Peter Whitney and Conlan Carter played father and son in several episodes of Beverly Hillbillies after The Rifleman. They had the names of Lafe and Dub Crick but they acted just like the Jackmans maybe a bit more criminal.

As for Andy Griffith you could compare the Jackmans to the Darlings. I found Andy had a lot more humor with the Darlings than Lucas had with the Jackmans.

There might have been the possibility of a TV series too. Some are glad it never happened. I just found Peter Whitney good at whoever he played.

This was planned as a pilot for LGL's first comedy TV series according to news articles at that time.

Yes. I especially liked him as the good or funny guy... but he made all his parts shine. smiley_sunshine

Well, now that's very interesting! Was there ever any explanation as to why the series was never realized? :?:  :?:  :?:

**I think if they had to use this as a 5th season show, it would have been better to put it as one of the earlier episodes, as opposed to the near last. It may have been more appreciated it if hadn’t monopolized the final shows. It kind of surprises me that they didn’t prepare more in case this was a final season.  Afterall, from all that I read on it, the producers seemed to know that it could quite possibly be the last. Go figure. (sigh) :dontknow:

I've never seen an explanation. My guess is that it wasn't popular enough to take the risk of going for a series.

In a way it's kinda sad that they had gone through all the trouble just to miss the mark. (Seriously unintentional pun.)

In and of itself, it's really not a bad little show, with the characters likeable and lively... just not The Rifleman. smiley_hunting awesome_no
