Footsteps of Screams, Part 1 of 3 - Written by stantler16

stantler16:10681 wrote:I never saw it coming, it appeared without a sound.  Moving fast like the wind, quiet like a wolf.  You know someone is watching, but every time you look, know one is there.

Pa and I were riding into town.  It was a cold day and not many people would feel like riding into town at this time.  Pa need more shell casings for his rifle and I needed new boots and I wanted some candy!  As we got to the edge of town we heard a scream.  It was loud and long, nothing I never heard before.  I had chills running down my spine and my horse became very spooked.  I looked over at pa and of course he had his rifle in his hand ready for whatever made that sound.
"Mark, wait a few seconds then follow me into town"  I of course obeyed my pa, I did not even want to go into town now, just ride away and hide in the hay loft.  But I had to get my boots and wanted to show how brave I was.  I sat there counting in my head to ten, then gave my horse a nudge and we were off following pa into the town.  I did not like the way the town reflected of the clouds. It reminded me of the ghost towns in the books pa read to me, thinking of pa where did he go?

TO BE COUNTINUED...............

But before you post the next part, let me turn on all the lights in the house.

I might not be able to give you any woodshed yelping, but I sure can make you feel guilty about putting us through such strain of waiting.

BTW, Welcome to the writer's guild.  You've got a good feel for writing and expressing what you feel.

I'll just sit back in my old rocker, wrap a shawl around my frail shoulders, and wait for the next part of your story.

I'm sure it will be as good as the start.

I'm not nearly as old as pretend to be.  Don't seem like I'm really 45 -- age it just a number!  And it most sports, the higher the number, the better.

Good Luck to you and your the Redskins, since they're not playing the Colts this week!

stantler16:10717 wrote:I stopped my horse and looked left then right, pa was in neither direction nor infront of me.  All of a sudden that horrible screem came out of its hiding place.  My horse flipped out and sent me falling to the wet, cold ground.  I woke up and the sun was setting, I wonder how long I was out?  A slight drizzle had started and the wind blew around me.
"Pa, pa where are you?  Where'd you go pa?"  The sound echoed off the buildings, and seemed to move out into the woods and hills.  I tried to get up, but my legs refused to move.  Tears were so close to crawling down my cheeks.  I crawled toward the town, behind me I heard rustling.  I looked behind, but nothing moved.  Fear rushed into my mind, I crawled quicker, and quicker.
The town did not come quick enough. No light, no sound, no one was in the town.  I crawled into the general store, luckly it was unlocked. Inside the store was a mess, bags of food were ripped apart, blankets and cans of food spread out on the ground.  I grabbed the blankets, some sacks and created a bed.  Someone could come and find me, or maybe pa would find me.  Then suddenly, I heard steps.  Clank, Clank no man made a clank noise.  I saw it in the window, it turned, opened the door and started right at me.  TO BE CONTINUED...hee hee
