Hello the house!

Post by Dana » Tue Nov 07, 2017 2:18 am

Hattie uses this greeting when she drops of Lucas's medicine at the end of the woman. Lucas uses this expression when ilvisits woody and grandpa fogarty in the long goodbye. "Hello the house!" Means the visit is friendly and not sinister. However, cynical me thinks thst if one is up to nefarious purposes, one would say that anyway.

Good info Dana. thats one expression we don't use anymore with the invention of the doorbell. I love your research.

Thank you, wildwest! You made me curious about doorbells. Scottish inventor William Murdoch invented a type of doorbell in 1871 . American inventor Joseph henry invented the electric doorbell in 1831. By the early 1930's , electric doorbells were common place.

Hello - The House!
Interesting phrase - Chuck said it in "Old Yeller". :happycowboy:

I also heard Hoss Cartwright use that phrase too.

One saying we still use today - "Get Outta Dodge!"
I chuckle every time I hear Matt Dillon say that.

Deneen....I say 'get outta Dodge' all the time. I wonder if my adult kids know just where that term came from.

and then there is......'go ahead and make my day'' Clint Eastwood

Yep - I was saying "Get Outta Dodge" before I started watching "GunSmoke"
re-runs. I probably say it more now. Thanks Matt Dillon.

The first time I saw Pat Boone on that bath tub commercial - I said -
"Oh - there's Pat Boone. My Daughter said - "Who's he?"
Huh! :o Kids!

You know that commercial with Pat Boone I think is SO funny when he breaks into song. so funny

did you know Randy Boone, actor, who was on Big Valley maybe one season is related to Pat. and the entire Boone clan is direct descendant from Daniel Boone
