Perhaps...I think Mark had matches in Home Ranch and Skull when he made a cook fire

The Indian: Mark had matches when he tried to light the peace pipe sam buckheart gave him. Where do you suppose Mark got the tobacco?

Mark was allowed to smoke a peace pipe (with tobacco) but not corn silk. :msn-oh:

It would have been easy for Mark to smoke if he wanted to.
Lucas left enough cigar butts around the ranch for Mark to pick up.

Hilarious! Cash was Lucas's short crop-not tobacco. Did he roll his own cigars? Maybe Mark decided to grow tobacco, instead of beans or corn. Lucas did not tell Mark to be careful with the matches. Did Mark carry his own matches?

HA love both your answers. I think Mark carried his own matches....so he could lite them and see when he was lost in a cave as he frequently was.

I think Mark was a typical western boy. tried cigars behind the blacksmith shop and tried whiskey with Arch. and when he was cleaning the yard he probably picked up Lucas cigar butts and smoked them behind the barn

Deneen, when you put it that way, it's amazing Mark waited until the ripe old age of twelve to smoke his first cigar!

you know since Mark was sneakin' around smoking and drinkin' whiskey I wonder if he was also out doing target practice on his own.....since Lucas was not teaching him how to shoot. I guess Lucas did teach him some, he allowed him to go after Old Spike with his 22 rifle. but we should have seen the master teaching the youngster how to shoot

That would have been soo Awesome!
"Someday you'll be standing along side me, the two of us together, both of us men.
A movie should have been made about Lucas and Mark after the series ended.
James Arness made "GunSmoke" movies after the series ended and he was in his 70's.
Andy Griffith made a movie ("Back To Mayberry") after his series ended.
"Leave It To Beaver" among other TV shows were revisted. Why not "The Rifleman"?
We were robbed!

I couldn't agree more Deneen,. they should have done a movie or a Back to North Fork. they also did a back to Bonanza with Michael Landons son. we live in such a confusing age now.......when we watch Rifleman we long for those days. I wonder if the shows appeal could be even greater now in reruns 60 years later. back then it was another western in a long stream of Westerns, however the BEST TV western EVER but today it is a show of love, second chances, kindness, tolerance, manners, justice.

I for one miss those days
