Mark's future wife

Post by cowgirl » Tue Nov 06, 2018 6:16 pm

Mark is thinking about his future and what he wants to do with his life. He's also thinking of what he will be looking for in a wife.

Remember in The Sister Mark asked Lucas what Lucas was looking for if he ever got married again? Now let's say Lucas is asking Mark the same question years later.....

Have you ever thought of marrying another woman?" Asked Mark.
“What made you think of that?" Asked Lucas.
"Well, like I said, I've been thinkin' of it for quite a spell." "How will you know her?" Mark pressed Lucas.
"I think I'll know her when I meet her son.”
With a big grin on his face he asked, "What will she be like?"
"Well, she'll have to cook and sew and scrub. Her hands gotta be soft, she's gotta have hair like crimson as the setting sun. Eyes as brown as chestnuts. She's gotta wear a flower because that's womanly. And she’s gotta ride a horse like a man."
"A woman like that is gonna be kinda hard to find, ain't she Pa?" Asked Mark.
"Keep your 'sites' on The Rifleman"
"The Rifleman hits the 'Mark' every week on abc."
A cowgirl's work is never done.

That's a great question Cowgirl....and it would have been a wonderful episode for us to see. I love in Old Tony when Mark and Lorrie are discussing love and marriage.

“Do you ever wonder what your wife will be like...I mean when you get married?"
"Well...what would she be like?" Lorrie wondered.
"Real pretty and a good cook," Mark teased.
"Oh Mark...can't you ever be serious?" she scolded him. "Do you think that is all there is to marriage?"

"No...not really! There's a lot more.”
"Like what?"
"Well...Pa and I was talkin' about it once. He was talking about my mother. I'll never forget a thing he said. He said that they were more than just in love...they were friends.”
"I don't think I understand," said Lorrie. "Well he meant that she was someone he could talk to....about his troubles and about anything."

Maybe, his wife will be a grown-up fancy-excuse me, dorothy Gale or the "cougar" Rebecca snipe.

Considering Mark's reaction to Millie's previous job as a schoolteacher, wouldn't it be something if Mark fell for a ...schoolteacher?!

Had they been a little closer in age, I had thought that Vicki Battle might have made a good wife for Mark. They got along great, and she was her dad's nurse so she could help tend all the bullet holes Lucas got lol.

Ruskin thats s really good one. and Vicki loved her Pa just like Mark loved his Pa so she would love her husband very dearly as well. They both understood the pain of having no Mother. even tho she was a couple of years older she could have provided the support Mark needed...and they were cute together.

I thought Sally was a little too flighty and Laurie immature. and for Simon and Lucas have their younguns marry would be something since they once hated each other.

Would the three-year age difference be a difference when Mark and Vickie are in their twenties?

Lucas only describes the physical attributes he wants. Lucas says nothing about what her personality should be like.

I think what Mark wants may depend on where Mark is, what he is doing, and what his experiences have been. For instance, if he goes to Harvard, Mark may fall for a Radcliff grad-perhaps with an introduction from john Hamilton, he could even fall in love with Agnes Hamilton's niece! If he becomes a writer, his bride may be a sob sister.
