Let's do something different with this section.....
"Keep your 'sites' on The Rifleman"
"The Rifleman hits the 'Mark' every week on abc."

Let's talk about our likes and dislikes about this episode.

I like this episode, although it's not my favorite, I always enjoyed it.

I especially love the part where Lucas catches Mark in the act of making the backward footprints.
Lucas walked up the trail and started to go up the cliff of rocks when he saw Mark! So Lucas hid behind a rock, waiting for Mark to come down. When Mark got close enough Lucas confronted him. Love this scene!

And how true Mark is to his word :
“You said it once yourself, pa. There’s nothing better than a friend! Once you’re a man’s friend, stick by him! No matter what, stick by him! Well, Don’s my friend just like that pa.” Mark licked his lips again as he mustered up brevity. “So I can’t tell ya'.”

Not a real fav of mine... mostly because I did not like the kid.
Too much like Jerry Lewis.
I did like the part where the wagon driver pretty much
told the kid to shut up, for payment for the ride..

Lucas has also told Mark, not to make friends too fast..
He made this one too fast to be so loyal..

I like this episode because it brings back a childhood memory that is very vivid in my mind, but my sister doesn’t recall it at all. I remember watching this episode as a kid, and the part where Mark instructs Mahoney how to walk backwards stuck in my mind.

Since this episode aired in February of 1959, when the snow was several inches high on our farm in southern Wisconsin, I decided it would be easy to trick my parents into thinking a person had walked from our neighbors farm to our farm by cutting through the pastures that joined the two farms. So, I talked my sister, who is younger than I am, into walking backwards with me up the hillside, which lead to our neighbor’s farm. To my surprise, my mother was watching us through the kitchen window!!! :surprisedcowboy: Sometimes, you just can’t get away with anything!!!

The thing I have a hard time with, when watching any of the episodes, is the way Mark talks back to his father. For example when Lucas asked Mark where Mahoney was, and Mark defiantly said he wasn’t going to tell him. Man, if I had talked back to my father like that, I would have gotten my behind warmed.

BTW: It is really hard on the calves of your legs, to walk backwards, and up a hill no less!!! Check out the following info...

Engaging muscles in your legs you don't normally use walking forward like the calves and hamstrings: Walking backwards gives you a chance to work out all of those muscles in your legs, such as your quadriceps and calves, which take a backseat to your hamstrings and glutes during regular walking.

Hey Judy, Thanks for the story. That is so cute. I really enjoyed it.

I would have never talked to my Mom that way either. I knew better tho. I would have gotten my butt warmed also and probably my mouth slapped.

Thanks for the info on on the leg muscles. I never would have gave that a thought.

I'm surprised no one mentioned the look Lucas gave Don when he pull a garter out of his bag. Mark commented that the bartender wears one. Mahoney correct Mark and said that it was a “girl’s garter.” Then Don said “I took ‘em off the girl myself.”

That’s it! Lucas had enough.

"MAHONEY!” Lucas warned.

Mahoney sat up at the sound of his voice. He could tell Lucas was not happy. “Ye-yes, Mr. McCain?”
