#66 - The Vision

There is always a lesson to learn when you watch “The Rifleman.” There is no better teacher for Mark than his father, Lucas McCain. Lucas teaches Mark from “The Bible” and from experience. Sometimes the lessons are hard ones and at times rather easy ones. They are still lessons learned! Let’s discuss the lessons learned in each episode. “Every lesson you learn makes you a better partner.” “Just remember the lessons!”

I wonder how they came of with the name Margaret and who named her? Boy this would be neat know and of course, we'll never know. :dontknow:
Margaret means "pearl". I will have to do some research on pearls a bit later.

Mark means "war-like", " consecrated by god", and "consecrated to the god mars".

Lucas means "light-giving" or "beacon".

And of course they all came from the Bible. I wonder who thought of using the names from the BiBle. It would be neat to know the background of this.

Remember Lucas' name originally was supposed to be John.

I'd love to know more background on this, but sadly there is no answer.

I don't recall ever seeing Lucas or Chuck ever smoking a pipe.

He always smoked cigars with the exception for the first episode where he smoked a cigarette...

Maybe that was John McCain. :grinning-cowboy:

We never see Lucas smoke his pipe, but we also never see Mark wake up during the night, get up out of bed, and "check on" pa.

According to stranger than fiction:agatha Christie's true crime inspirations, the symptoms of typhoid and laudanum poisoning are quite similar.

That's interesting, we know they used laudanum a lot back in the old TV Westerns and most likely in the real west.

I wonder how many side effects there were to this medicine back then? Did they even know about side effects back when? They gave you medicine and it fixed everything or did it?!

I've always thought it was funny, that in most westerns, then, ANY injury/sickness,
was always treated with the same treatment... applying a wet compress to the forehead...
Like when Noley was shot in the gut, and Lucas goes to help him... and pats his head
with a wet bandanna..

Or that, a gunshot wound, they always took care of it with the shirt on..

Also someone tell them to get water. Water is the cure all.
